Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta
We’ve been so fortunate to be able to attend the Balloon Fiesta twice. What an incredible experience! The average height of the balloons is 110’ tall. Standing amongst them in the evening as they light up, tethered during ‘Evening Glow’ you get a real feel for the immensity of them. The whooshing sound of the pilot lights igniting the vapors and the rhythmic firing of the 8’ flame in over 500 balloons creates a sound similar to a heartbeat as the balloons light up. The variety of colors and shapes is amazing. The character balloons are really fun to see. During ‘Mass Ascension’ early in the morning, the balloons all begin to take to the sky.
My goal with this piece (created in oils) was to incorporate some of my favorite colorful balloons going over a shiny vintage Airstream. It’s delightful to watch them glide quietly overhead from your campsite in the parking lot. If you go with the Airstream Club (WBCCI) you’ll be parked next to other Airstreamers from a front-row seat and you’ll meet so many fun people.
